I am a retired mental health worker, psychotherapist and dramatherapist. I have worked with people with learning disabilities ,asylum severs, victims of torture and homeless people.
As a member of the Patient and Public Involvement Forum for for a Mental Health Trust, I have been involved in policy making.
I am currently volunteering with a therapeutic music making project for people with a wide range of disabilities.
I have struggled with depression for most of my adult life, and have recently been affected by hearing loss. I have recent personal experience of the failure of the mental health system to provide crisis care. I care for a partner with disabilities.
Prior to my health work, I was a systems analyst and project leader in Data Processing for a wide range of organisations and I wrote the equal opportunities statement for a charity.
Through my work, and personal experience, I have become painfully aware of the limitations of the health, social care and benefits systems, especially, but not exclusively, for people with mental health issues, learning disabilities, and long term illness or disability.
I am proud to be standing as part of the DEAL team for accountability and change in DL.
